A very full house for Cartoon Digital 2019!
A record of 250 participants from 22 countries arrived in Cagliari for Cartoon Digital 2019!
Yesterday and this morning, just before Cartoon Digital, the Italian Days (a coaching programme and one-to-one meetings between Italian production companies and European broadcasters) took place and were co-organised by Cartoon Italia, The Sardegna Film Commission and Cartoon. The goal of the Italians Days was to help young talents connect with the industry and boost the Italian companies’ business beyond their borders.
Cartoon Digital started today in Cagliari with the welcome words of Alessandra Zedda (The Autonomous Region of Sardegna), Antonella Delle Donne (the City of Cagliari), Nevina Satta (The Sardegna Film Commission) & Yolanda Alonso (Cartoon). The 3-day seminar has established its quarters at the Manifattura Tabacchi, in Cagliari city center. During this top-level animation event, participants will improve their knowledge of how digital opportunities can increase the value of their brands and exposure. They will have the opportunity to network with animation professionals and digital animation experts.
The first presentation was a keynote speech by Michael Hirsh on the state of animation in today’s on demand world and the expected impact on today’s European digital market.
Followed by an overview of “Sardegna, the island of sustainability” by Nevina Satta (Sardegna Film Commission), she explained simple and practical solutions to limit carbon footprint on set while reducing budgets.
Then, Tiphaine de Raguenel (France Télévisions - France), Luca Milano (RAI Ragazzi - Italy) and Yago Fandiño Lousa (RTVE - Spain) discussed their positioning as European broadcasters confronted to platforms’ global competition. We also had the opportunity to discover the case study of the US first best selling series “Warriors” with 40 million books sold to date and over 400 million views on YouTube.
After this intense first day, the traditional Welcome Dinner took place at Convento San Guiseppe, one of the greatest hallmarks of Cagliari.
