Cartoon Digital 2018: a record attendance with 210 participants!

A record attendance: 210 participants from 25 countries registered at Cartoon Digital 2018! The event has been launched today in Ghent, Belgium. The 3-day seminar has established its quarters at the Oude Vismijn, in the city centre.

During the morning, we organised a session dedicated for local producers and students: Presentations of VAF, Cartoon Springboard and internships offers for local students.

After lunch, we had the pleasure to welcome Mathias De Clercq (City of Ghent) and Erwin Provoost (Flanders Audiovisual Fund - VAF) who introduced Cartoon Digital with Yolanda Alonso (Cartoon) and Annick Maes (Cartoon). This edition hosts an impressive line-up of 30 speakers from the animation, TV channels, game, publishing and online worlds. They will help producers create, connect and expand their multiplatform project.

Cartoon Digital Ghent is the place to be to explore the latest developments, give a digital dimension to a brand and to network with different companies such as game developers, publishing houses that do VR and AR, broadcasters, VOD platforms, innovative digital producers, marketers in the digital world and last, but not least, financiers.

The first presentation was a keynote speech by Marc Goodchild (Turner EMEA - UK) on how Turner is re-inventing TV to stay relevant to kid's consumption patterns, followed by an overview of "Animation in Flanders" by Annemie Degryse (Lunanime), Ives Agemans (Cyborn), Jan Roekens (Screen Flanders / VAF) and Michela Ritondo (Federal Public Service Finance). They explained the landscape of animation in Flanders and in particular the benefits when working there in terms of infrastructure, production capacity, talent and financial incentives, through tax shelter and public funding.

Then, Tiphaine de Raguenel (France Télévisions - France) and Luca Milano (RAI Ragazzi - Italy) discussed their positioning as PSB on the vast subject "European Broadcasters’ offensives on OTT".

We finished this great day by a Welcome Dinner at Cafe Theatre, the perfect place to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
